Fujisan Onsen Hotel Kaneyamaen: Authentic (Mount Fuji) Experience

If you are looking for a show-stopping view of Mount Fuji and a gorgeous onsen with an authentic Japanese experience, look no further. We were the only American tourists at Kaneyamaen, and that made it feel even more special.

The hotel sits quietly at the base of Mount Fuji in Fujiyoshida. It’s family-run, calm, and deeply rooted in Japanese hospitality. From the moment you walk through the entrance, everything feels peaceful. There’s soft music playing through the garden, and you can hear the water from the koi ponds as you check in.

The hotel has a open-air onsen that faced Mount Fuji. In the morning, I soaked while the mountain slowly appeared through the steam.

Meals are served kaiseki-style, using local ingredients and traditional plating. They are included with the price of the hotel. Each course arrives slowly, and the staff explain what’s in season and where it came from. The food is clean, thoughtful, and unpretentious.

What stood out most was how intentional everything felt. The staff bow, serve tea, and move quietly. It’s a large property with over a hundred rooms, but it still feels personal. The service is warm and consistent, and you can sense how much pride they take in maintaining tradition.

On cloudy days, Mount Fuji disappears completely. But even then, the stillness of the place is worth the trip.

Why I liked it:
It’s authentic, quiet, and family-run. The kind of place that doesn’t need to be modern or minimal to feel grounded.

Best for: Anyone who wants an immersive onsen experience without the crowds.
