Il Carrubo Capri: Family-run BnB in gorgeous Anacapri

Capri is a hidden gem (well, not so much hidden anymore). But Anacapri? That is where the real beauty is. Tucked in a quiet neighborhood above the island’s main bustle, Il Carrubo Capri is a family-run luxury B&B that redefines what high-end, family-run hospitality can feel like. You can reach it by taxi or bus, but if you’re lucky, one of the owner’s siblings might pick you up from the ferry in his red convertible. They were so friendly, and texted us just like we were family throughout the entirety of our stay.

The property has only a handful of rooms and is open for half the year. Each one overlooks the sea or the gardens, framed by olive trees and the inn’s namesake carob tree. It feels private and still, like the kind of place where time stretches - and it kind of reminds us of White Lotus, as you start to really get to know your fellow travellers.

Mornings start slowly. A handwritten menu lists a few options, usually something seasonal, something local, and always something thoughtful. The owners prepare breakfast themselves and often step out to chat with guests. Between tables, the house cat makes its rounds, weaving between chairs, pausing for a quick scratch, then wandering off to nap in the sun. A few hens wander the property too, and sometimes one slips through the terrace gate, clucking proudly as if to remind everyone where the eggs came from.

What makes Il Carrubo Capri special is not grandeur, but care. Every detail feels intentional, from the fresh lemons in the courtyard, the soft linens, the way they remember how you take your coffee. When I asked the wonderful family about closing for half the year, they told me it gives them time to rest and restore the property.

The inn is run by siblings Alice, Corino, and Michele, who purchased the property and now live on & care for it with a sense of pride that’s rare to find. Their hospitality feels instinctive, like they were raised around it. Before I left, Michele waved from the garden and said, “Come back when the lemons bloom again.” I probably will.

A 10/10 experience. Thank you to the lovely team!
